2020: Virtual Beginnings

Pioneer Year

Launched as a virtual initiative during the pandemic, training 100 students from 5 universities in Wikipedia editing fundamentals.

Key Achievements:

  • First student-focused Wikimedia event in Tanzania
  • Created 50 new articles about Tanzanian culture
  • Established partnerships with 3 academic institutions

Growth Phase

Expanded to hybrid events with both virtual and in-person components, focusing on bridging the digital knowledge gap in Tanzania.

  • First regional editions in Zanzibar and Arusha
